Learn How To Garden In Small Gardens

Advice That Can Help You Get Better At Organic Gardening

If you want to improve your diet, you may want to get into organic gardening. It does require some effort, in order to grow, though. Oftentimes, new gardeners can be intimidated because they’re not quite sure where to start.

You can help to prevent your plants from developing diseases with aspirin water. Dissolve aspirin (1.5 pills per 2 gallons of water) in a bucket and administer to your plants. You can simply spray them with the mixture to help aid them in fighting off diseases. Give your plants a spray of the aspirin-water mixture about one time every three weeks.

When growing organic plants indoors, it is important to consider the amount of light that is available to them. If you’re living in a home that doesn’t receive much sunlight, you should consider growing plants that thrive in environments with low to medium amounts of light. If you already have plants that need full light and the natural light provided is not sufficient, artificial lights can supplement their needs.

After your seeds sprout, the containers do not need to stay as warm as they once did. As your plants grow, you will want to put a little distance between them and heat. This also includes removing any plastic that you had covering the plant or container. Watch your seeds closely to find the right time to do this.

Spacing is an important factor to consider when planting your garden. Amateur gardeners often make the mistake of failing to leave enough space for fully matured plants. Plants need room for physical growth and for the air to circulate within the soil. Make sure that you map out your garden layout beforehand and place your seeds with an adequate amount of space in between each.

When developing your compost pile, use equal measures of dried and green material. Green means plant cuttings including grass, produce and weeds. Dried plant matter, on the other hand, includes shredded paper, used wood chips and straw. However, stay away from meats, manure from carnivores, charcoal and other potentially harmful substances.

A good way to plant seeds is in containers. Plant them three times as deep as their overall size. Some seeds need to be in direct sunlight, though, so you need to know information about each type of seed. Some examples are petunias and ageratum. If you are not sure whether your seeds need to be exposed to sunlight, resources are usually provided with the seeds or can be found online.

A beer trap is an effective way of of dealing with any slugs that invade your organic garden. Get a clean, empty glass jar to use as a trap. Bury it with its mouth facing upwards. Keep putting dirt over the jar until the mouth is at the surface of your garden. Pour beer into the jar until it is an inch from the top. Slugs are attracted to beer. They will crawl into the jar and be trapped.
