You need to know some basics related to improving your garden for your family, your business, or simply yourself. You can figure out everything you need, so you do not waste money on unnecessary equipment, or the wrong types of seeds for your environment.
Use both biennials and annuals to add color to your flower bed. These types of flowers grow at high speed, which gives you more flexibility in changing the look of your flower beds as the seasons change. They can be used to fill in gaps in your garden between the perennials or shrubs so your garden looks fuller. Some examples include sunflowers, marigolds, petunias, hollyhocks, cosmos, and rudbeckia.
You can plant wheat grass or cat grass near the plants that the cat eats. In addition, you could put an item on the soil’s top around the plants which has a smell that cats hate, such as citrus peel or mothballs.
To help young plants, try pouring boiling water on top of nearby weeds. Boiling water is an excellent, organic substance for use against weeds. One simple layer across the weeds with a pot of boiling water will take care of the problem, but you have to remember the same applies to your plants, as well. Weed roots will suffer harm from boiling water, and this will probably stop them from growing more.
Are you one of the millions who loves some fresh mint leaves, yet you absolutely hate the way they tend to take over any garden they are planted within? Instead of planting mint in the ground, confine it to a large pot. You have the option of planting the container with the plant to keep the roots from taking the garden over.
Make sure your pesticides are focused on only what you’re trying to kill. Broad-spectrum pesticides will kill insects that are helpful to your garden as well as the harmful ones. Bugs that are good for your garden tend to be more susceptible to these types of pesticides, and using them could mean an increase in the pests you are actually trying to get rid of. If you respond to the growing pest problem with more broad-spectrum pesticide, you only continue the harmful cycle.
Use cologne or other items with a distinct scent to keep your canine out of the landscaping. Your dog will be less attracted to your garden when these scents overpower compost scents and other smells dogs like.
Vegetables are softer in the heat of the hottest part of the day; even gently picking them at that time can damage them. Twisting off vegetables causes damage to the plant; always snip them at the base of the vine.

To draw good insects to your garden, plant heather. Bees love heather, and it is a favorite stop when they emerge in early spring.
Undisturbed shrubs, such as beds of heather, are probably home to a number of beneficial insects like spiders and ground beetles. Because of this, you should put on a pair of gloves when it’s time to prune the heather.
A little bit of research will go a long way, especially when you pair it with patience. Your efforts will pay off when you experience the joy of watching something that you created grow.
