Learn How To Garden In Small Gardens

How To Start Your Own Organic Garden

Gardening can seem complicated at first, if you do not know what you are doing. For instance, you have to know certain things like pH balance in soil or things that can fend off bugs naturally when you get into gardening. It can be difficult to switch to organic gardening methods for a beginner. Keep reading to find out how the professionals do it.

Keep your plants in a warm, moist environment, if possible. This is the optimum temperature to ensure strong growth. If you think it would not be comfortable to keep your residence that warm in the winter, consider purchasing a heat lamp to use on the plants.

Before planting any perennials, you have to make the ground ready. Simply slice into the ground with a spade, flip the top layer of soil, and then cover it with several inches of wood chips. After a few weeks, you can then dig into the turf and plant the perennials of your choosing.

When your plants begin to sprout, they can survive in somewhat cooler temperatures. You can begin to move them further from the heat source as they become seedlings. This also includes removing any plastic that you had covering the plant or container. Unless you closely monitor your seedlings, you may not move them in time.

When working in the garden, try to work as efficiently as possible. One of the biggest time wasters is not keeping track of your tools and having to look for them every time you need them. Before you make a trip to your garden, you should gather all tools and items in advance. Afterwards, be sure to return them to their original storage place. It may be necessary to don a tool belt or cargo pants with extra pockets.

Coffee Grounds

It is common knowledge that grounds from brewed coffee are good for soil. They contain nitrogenous nutrients which are essential to plant growth. It is best for your plants to use coffee grounds that are part of a blend of ingredients in the compost or soil you are using for your plants, rather than directly adding coffee grounds to your garden plants.

Stay on top of your organic gardening to-do list, and don’t let the work pile up. Not everyone has time to tend their gardens every day, but by doing little things whenever you have a chance, you can avoid having things pile up. Even if you’re just taking the dog for a walk, bend down and pick a few weeds.

You may find an old plastic laundry basket ideal for gathering vegetables from your garden. The laundry basket can be used as a colander for your produce. If you leave your produce in the basket while rinsing it, the basket will be able to serve as a strainer, with the extra water dripping out the holes in the bottom of the basket.

Now, you shouldn’t get your hopes up and believe that a few tips are going to turn you into an instant professional gardener. However, these tips are a great starting point if you do plan to grow organically. As you implement these tips and hone your skills, you’ll be a professional green-thumb-holder in no time.
