Learn How To Garden In Small Gardens

The Basics Of How To Grow An Organic Garden

Anyone can enjoy the relaxation and fruitful benefits of cultivating their own organic garden. Yet for someone who is just a novice, gardening can be a really intimidating thing to think about. So, what should a novice do to learn how to grow plants? Well, you are in luck; these tips will come in handy!

Using a solution of aspirin and water can prevent certain plant diseases. An aspirin and a half, dissolved in about two gallons of fresh water, is great for your plants. All you have to do is spray the plants with this solution and you should see good results. Apply at three week intervals.

If you are a fan of organic, sustainable gardening methods, consider leaving part of your backyard untouched so that natural plants and wildlife can flourish in the area. Wildlife can help the plants in your garden to thrive, as insects support plant reproduction, while the excrement of many species contains nutrients which can help to fertilize your soil.

Make sure you have your gardening tools near you, so you can maximize your gardening efficiency. Use a large bucket, or wear rugged pants with several pockets. Tools you’ll need to garden efficiently include towels, gloves, pruning shears and other plant-specific tools.

The optimal amount of organic mulch to use in your flower beds is 2-3 inches. Using this much mulch retards weed growth, locks in moisture, and ensures that your plants are well-nourished. This will also make your flowers appear beautiful and finished all year long.

Pine is a wonderful mulch so do not discard the idea. Some plants like acidic soil because they have high acidity. If this is the case, use pine needles to mulch your beds. Cover your beds with two inches of needles; acid will be dispersed into the soil as they decompose.

Tend your organic garden on a regular schedule. If your busy life prevents you from tending your garden every day, do small tasks to avoid having so much work when you do have some time. For example, while your canine is outside going to the toilet, take the time to pull out a few weeds.

Laundry Basket

When you want to harvest the produce in your organic garden, always have an old laundry basket to hand. The basket will make a great strainer when you wash your vegetables. The produce can be rinsed off as it sits in the laundry basket, and extra water will drain out through the sides.

Your compost pile should contain green plant materials and dry plant materials. Green means plant cuttings including grass, produce and weeds. Dry materials, like sawdust, cut up wood pieces, cardboard, straw and shredded paper are good for your compost pile. Avoid using animal manure, charcoal or diseased plants in your compost.

After reading this article, you should have a better idea of the appeal of growing an organic garden. Properly growing your garden can involve serious relaxation and even some fun. Using these tips, you can become an excellent organic gardener.
