Strawberries are a good organic garden choice for families with strawberries, particularly everbearing strawberries. Strawberries are a favorite of children due to their sweetness. And since they’re so easy and fun to pick, it’s also a healthy, productive, safe activity that children can assist adults with.

If you are planning to grow plants within the house, the temperature should be maintained between 65 and 75 degrees within the daylight hours. Your plants will not grow well if it is too cold. If you don’t like keeping your home that temperature in the winter, you may wish to consider getting a heat lamp, instead, to keep your organic plants the correct temperature.

After your seeds sprout, the containers do not need to stay as warm as they once did. Sprouting plants can be removed from the heat source. If you used plastic wrap to insulate your seedlings, you should now remove it. To know when it is time for this, keep a careful eye on your seeds.

Make the most of the time spent in your garden. Don’t waste your time looking for missing tools. Prepare your equipment before you go into the garden and put everything away afterwards. A good way to keep your tools at hand is to buy a tool belt or utility pants with many large pockets.

Coffee Grounds

Coffee grounds are a good addition to your soil. Coffee grounds will add nitrogen to your soil which will make them helpful for some of your plants. Coffee grounds as a source of nitrogen for plants are usually limited to acid-loving plants because coffee is acidic. Generally, nitrogen is the limiting nutrient with any plant and having a good nitrogen source either by coffee grounds, compost, or even diluted urea, will make your plants bloom faster and grow taller.

Use an old laundry basket to collect your produce. This type of basket can double as a large colander for the fruits and vegetables you pick. When you put your produce in a basket, you can then rinse it off and let it strain any excess water through the laundry basket holes.

Thick Layer

Want to kill weeds naturally? A good thick layer of newspaper can be laid down to control weeds. Weeds need sun for growth, just like any other plant. If you put a thick layer of newspaper on them, weeds will not be able to get light or air, and they will die! As an added benefit, the newspapers will decompose over time, becoming organic compost. If you want it to look better, just add a layer or two of much over top of the newspapers.

Now, you shouldn’t get your hopes up and believe that a few tips are going to turn you into an instant professional gardener. However, these tips are a great starting point if you do plan to grow organically. As you implement these tips and hone your skills, you’ll be a professional green-thumb-holder in no time.
