Your children will enjoy being involved with your organic gardening endeavors. Helping a garden grow is an excellent learning experience for kids, and it allows your family to spend time together while creating healthy, nutritious foods.

If you want to get children in on the fun, plant a few strawberries, everbearing if possible. You will find that they enjoy participating in gardening if they are allowed to pluck the fresh berries and eat them straight from the earth.

The ambient temperate of a room with live plants should be kept between sixty-five and seventy-five degrees throughout the day. This is the optimum temperature to ensure strong growth. If your thermostat is normally kept lower in winter, you can use a heat lamp to keep your plants warm enough.

Just as when outside, plants kept inside need varying degrees of sunlight, which can be harder to obtain from indoors. If the room you wish to grow them in faces in a direction that gets little light, choose varieties of plants which can accept this type of environment. If you already have plants that need full light and the natural light provided is not sufficient, artificial lights can supplement their needs.

Use about two to three inches of organic material as mulch in all of your flower beds. Mulch discourages weeds and helps retain moisture while adding nutrients to your flower bed. Mulch also completes your garden, giving it a finished appearance.

Pine Needles

Don’t underestimate pine as a great mulch. Some garden plants have a high acidity, and prefer acidic soil. For these types of plants, pine needles are wonderful for mulching. Cover the plots with pine needles. As the pine needles decay, they’ll raise the soil’s acidity.

Use an old laundry basket to gather your vegetables and fruits. A laundry basket will act as a strainer for your produce. The basket won’t be affected by the water and it will drain right off as though it were poured into a large sieve.
