Great Tips And Advice For Organic Growing

An organic garden requires time, effort and patience to yield amazing results. Gardeners need to use all the information they can to create and tend to their organic garden. Following organic gardening practices will result in tastier fruits and vegetables, as well as happier plants. Use the advice that follows in order to cultivate a truly impressive organic garden.

Consider planting strawberries, especially ones that are everbearing, for your garden if you have small children. For kids, there are few things as fun as picking fruit fresh from the garden. Your children will be much more interesting in helping out if they know they’ll get to enjoy some tasty strawberries.

One of the problems that people come up against when trying to grow organic plants indoors is a lack of natural light. Ideally, these plants should be kept in a room that offers natural light from a window or glass door. If you want to grow plants that need a lot of light, consider using artificial lighting.

You’ll save time and energy if you keep tools nearby while working in your garden. You should use a large pail and wear sturdy pants that have several pockets. Keep your gloves, a trowel, small pruning shears and other tools handy and make quick work of your garden maintenance.

When you are doing work in your garden, be efficient. Don’t waste your time by looking all over for your tools. By keeping your tools in a certain area, they will always be ready whenever you are. If you need to use a tool belt, try using some pants with pockets in them.

Pine Needles

Pine is a mulch that is great. Acidic soil is a favorite of garden plants that are high in acidity. Use pine needles to increase the acid level in your soil if you have plants that require higher acid. Sprinkle the pine needles over your beds. As the needles decompose, they add to the acid level in the soil.

You can kill weeds naturally. A good thick layer of newspaper can be laid down to control weeds. In order to grow, weeds need sunlight. The layers of newspaper over the weeds will block out the light and kill them. Newspapers break down over time, and they make a great addition to compost. Put mulch over top to increase the attractiveness of the pile.

A rule of thumb for when you are planting seeds in containers is to make the hole depth around three times larger than the seed itself. There are exceptions to this rule, however. Some seeds should remain uncovered because they thrive in direct sunlight. Among the seeds meeting this definition are ageratum and petunias. If you are unsure about the specific needs of your seeds, you should consult your local garden center or conduct further research online. Important things to look for include water requirements, ideal soil type, and recommended sunlight exposure.

A raised bed can be built with untreated wood, brick or stone. If you are to use wood, you should make sure that the wood is not treated and is also naturally rot resistant. Cypress, locust and cedar are all very good choices. If you use treated wood in your vegetable garden, the chemicals in the wood can make their way into the soil, and in turn, to your crops. If you are already using treated lumber, you can use plastic liners, or a different barrier, in order to protect your garden.

The tips above have shown you that there is a noticeable difference in the quality of produce produced by organic gardening. Organic gardening takes patience and manual labor, but it’s worth it when you start reaping the benefits of your labor.
