Learn How To Garden In Small Gardens

Grow Like A Pro With These Organic Gardening Tips

You can take organic gardening as a hobby, or as a science. This list of tips should help you become a successful organic gardener.

Include your kids in growing an organic garden. Growing a garden offers a unique learning experience, and you and your child can grow closer while growing healthy food for your family.

If you are growing plants organically indoors, you have to consider the light that they are getting. If you live somewhere without strong natural sunlight, you might want to look into growing plants that thrive in lower-light environments. If you do and this does not help, consider investing in some grow-lights.

Before planting your favorite perennials, you must first prepare the ground. Use a spade to dig into the turf, turn the turf over, then spread the area with approximately three inches of wood chips. Let this sit for a couple weeks, next dig into it to plant your new plants.

Keep your garden tools close at hand to make the most of your gardening time. You should use a large pail and wear sturdy pants that have several pockets. If you have your pruning shears, spade, trowel and gloves handy, you will be able to get your gardening chores done much more quickly.

Paying attention to spacing is important. It can be easy to underestimate how much space your plants will need once they begin growing. Your plants will need the space not only because of their physical size, but also because the space will provide air circulation for the garden. Try to plan your garden and place sufficient distance in between your seedlings.

Try to work in your garden at least a short time each day. Even doing just a few small things each day can keep chores from piling up and eventually becoming unmanageable. This will save you a lot of time in the long run. For instance, pluck weeds while you take your dog outside or before getting in your car.

Laundry Basket

When the time comes to harvest your produce, collect it using an old laundry basket. You can also use a laundry basket as a strainer. The basket won’t be affected by the water and it will drain right off as though it were poured into a large sieve.

If slugs are an issue in your garden, a beer trap can make them go away. Place a container in the ground so that the lip is even with the soil surface. Next, fill up the jar with beer until there is around one inch between the liquid level and the jar top. Slugs will be attracted to the beer and find themselves trapped.

As you have seen from the above article, there is quite a bit more to successful organic gardening than a lot of people realize. It takes effort and a willingness to learn. It is rewarding for those with patience, supplying healthy food and an attractive addition to the home. When you follow the organic gardening advice in the article above, you will have a successful and delicious bounty of fresh foods.
