Grow The Healthy Way: Organic Gardening Techniques

When it comes to gardening the green way, every organic garden needs extra TLC. That is why wise organic gardening tips are important. The tastiest and healthiest of produce can be produced from your own organic garden. Follow these tips to make your organic garden stand out above the rest.

Get your children interested in helping with your organic garden. A garden can teach your children about the joy of rewarding work and nutrition while bonding.

Strawberries are a good organic garden choice for families with strawberries, particularly everbearing strawberries. A lot of children not only love to pick out their own fruit but they also love to learn about it as well.

For in-home organic gardeners, you are looking for an ideal temperature of around 60-75 degrees for your plants. They need the temperature to be that warm so that they can grow. If your thermostat is normally kept lower in winter, you can use a heat lamp to keep your plants warm enough.

Pay attention to how much light your indoor plants are getting. If your home does not let in sufficient light, then consider getting plants that thrive in low-light situations. If your plants still need more light, there are always artificial light sources that you can use.

Tools Handy

Keep your tools handy to work more efficiently. Use a bucket large enough to hold all your equipment or wear pants with multiple pockets. Keep your gloves, a trowel, small pruning shears and other tools handy and make quick work of your garden maintenance.

Pine can make for a great type of mulch. Some garden plants have a high acidity, and prefer acidic soil. If you have acid loving plants, use pine needles as a mulch. If you spread a few inches of pine needles around your garden beds, when they break down, the acid they contain will leach into the soil.

Do you prefer to eliminate weeds without the use of harmful chemicals? You need to have many layers of newspapers in order to provide proper weed control. The main thing that a weed needs to thrive is sunlight. When you pile up layers of newspapers right on top of the weeds, they will suffocate and die. Old newspapers are a valuable addition to your compost heap. Covering the newspaper with mulch will help your garden to be more pleasing to the eye.

When planting seeds in containers, remember that the depth should be at least three times bigger than the seed. However, it is important to understand that some seeds require sunlight and should never be covered. Example of these kinds of seeds include the petunia and the ageratum. If you are unsure if your seeds should be covered, refer to the seed packet, or if that is not available, look for information online.

Be careful with the amount of water that you’re giving your plants when gardening. Roots need to draw in nutrients via the soil, and they cannot do this if they’re flooded with water. Prior to watering your outdoor plants, you should check with weather stations to see if it will be raining later in the day. You may want to skip the watering during a day that will receive significant rainfall.

Having an organic garden means that you can enjoy fresh, healthy fruits and vegetables whenever you want. A successful garden takes plenty of work and patience, but it’s all worth it when you get to taste your delicious results.
