Learn How To Garden In Small Gardens

Growing Healthy: Organic Gardening Tips And Advice

Organic gardening has gained popularity from people who no longer wish to consume produce that has been treated with chemicals and pesticides, which can damage the environment and a person’s health. A lot of techniques for organic gardening actually don’t cost a lot of money. Here are some helpful techniques to help you learn to garden organically.

Your children can help you with your garden. An organic garden will help your child learn more about plants and insects, and it’s a wonderful bonding time while growing healthy produce.

Plant strawberries for your children. Little ones will be more likely to help when they can enjoy the fun of harvesting their own fruit.

Plants Fight

Water containing some aspirin helps your plants fight illness. One and a half aspirin, dissolved in two gallons of water, can be a great addition to your plants. Spray the plants with the aspirin solution to help your plants fight disease. Spray them once about every three weeks.

Once your seeds have germinated they will not need to be kept as warm as before. As your plants grow, you will want to put a little distance between them and heat. Also, remove plastic coverings from the tops of your growing containers to keep them from becoming too warm or humid. Observe your seeds carefully so that you can make these changes as soon as they start sprouting.

Plastic bags are great to cover gardening shoes when they get muddy. Doing this prevents lengthy work interruptions, and allows you to finish the job quickly.

Don’t let the chores for your organic garden pile up. Even if you are too busy to tend to your gardens needs every day, you can try little things that will prevent you from having a lot of work when you return to your garden. For example, if your family is cooking out on the grill, you could clear a few bunches of weeds between checking on the burgers.

Laundry Basket

You may find an old plastic laundry basket ideal for gathering vegetables from your garden. A benefit of using something like a laundry basket is that it can strain for you, as well as hold a large amount of produce. If you hose off your produce in the laundry basket, the water will leave the basket through the holes in the sides.

A good thing to know when it comes to your organic garden, and running it, is to, a couple times a day, lightly ruffle the seedlings with cardboard or your hand. You may think it odd, but studies show that this action results in plant growth that is more substantial than would otherwise be achieved.

A diversity of materials can be used to construct raised beds. These include brick, stone, and wood. If you use wood, be sure that it is untreated and naturally rot resistant. Good choices are cedar, locust and cypress. In a vegetable garden, never use treated wood, as the chemicals can leach out into the soil and food crops. If you have already used lumber that is treated, you can line it with plastic or another type of barrier.

If you want to sell your crops, you should become a certified organic gardener. That way, you will realize greater sales volume and demonstrate the value of your produce to potential and returning customers.

While gardening organically requires more work than gardening with the help of chemicals, the rewards are worth it. While chemical-based gardening products make bold claims, it is hard to dispute that organic gardening consistently produces superior results.

Garlic Cloves

Grow some garlic that is organic. You can place garlic cloves directly into the moist, fertile soil during spring or autumn months. Plant the cloves one to two inches beneath the soil about four inches apart and with the pointed end up. As your garlic shoots grow, you can cut them and use them instead of scallions or chives. The bulbs are ready to harvest when the tops start to turn brown. Allow the skin to harden by letting your bulbs sit out in the sun. You should store your garlic cloves in a cooler area and tie them in some bunches.

Utilize the advice provided here, and you will soon be on your way to having a flourishing organic garden that is both healthy and free of pollutants. When you work to keep your garden in tune with nature, you’ll also see more birds and animals stop by for a visit.
