Growing Healthy: Organic Gardening Tips And Advice

Many people select organic gardening to avoid using pesticides or commercial fertilizers on their garden for fear of long-term damage to their health and the environment. There is also the fact that maintaining an organic garden is inexpensive. With the tips here in this article you can quickly become an expert in organic gardening.

When you are organic gardening, ask your children to lend a hand. A garden can provide a wonderful learning experience for children, and will give you an opportunity to bond with them while you produce healthy food.

If you’re thinking about growing your own organic garden, then you might want to consider keeping a bit of your property undeveloped; this way wildlife can flourish. The kind of birds and insects needed for pollination will be naturally present on your property and help with your organic garden.

The ideal temperature to set your thermostat for indoor plants is between 65-75 degrees Fahrenheit during the daylight hours. Indoor plants grow best at these warm temperatures. You can also buy a heat lamp to maintain ideal conditions for your inside plants during the winter.

Perennial gardens should be prepared easily and quickly in the ground. Use a spade to dig into the turf, turn the turf over, then spread the area with approximately three inches of wood chips. Let the area sit for a fortnight, then turn the earth and set up your new perennial bed.

Pine is a wonderful mulch so do not discard the idea. There are many common acidic plants that prefer acidic soil. Use pine needles to increase the acid level in your soil if you have plants that require higher acid. Cover your beds with the needles, as they will decompose and disperse their acid throughout the soil.

Don’t let the chores for your organic garden pile up. Every time you go outside, you should take care of a few things so that you do not have too much work to do when you have the time to go back to your garden. For example, if your family is cooking out on the grill, you could clear a few bunches of weeds between checking on the burgers.

If you are starting your seedlings out in small containers, you should use a layer of potting soil that is three times as deep as the size of a single seed. Some seeds shouldn’t be covered and must be in sunlight at all times. Two common examples of this type of seed are ageratum and petunias. Read the instructions that came with the seeds, and do some research on the Internet to find out the sunlight that your seeds need.

Use the advice here to start your own organic garden. It is an interesting hobby and one that can improve your health. Your foods will taste better and not contain the heavy chemicals of store bought produce. When you are organic gardening and working with nature, you will also see a lot of wildlife coming to visit!
