How To Achieve A Beautiful Organic Garden

Having an organic garden does make it easier to eat healthy fruits and vegetables, but planning a garden and choosing the correct equipment can be a complex process. You also have a wide variety of seeds that you can select from. Here are some steps you can take to ensure you get what you need to grow your organic garden.

Before planting your favorite perennials, you must first prepare the ground. Slice under the grass with a spade, flip the layer you have lifted over, and spread three inches of wood chips on top. Wait two weeks or so, and then you are ready to jump right in with digging and planting.

After seeds have sprouted, they require less warmth than they did prior to sprouting. You can begin to move them further from the heat source as they become seedlings. You must also take away plastic films from your containers in order to keep the warmth and humidity out. Check on your seeds periodically to make sure you know when to remove the films.

You should add a two to three inch layer of organic mulch to your flower bed. This fights weeds, retains moisture, and gives your garden valuable nutrients. This also gives your flower beds a more aesthetic aspect.

When working in the garden, try to work as efficiently as possible. Don’t waste time searching for lost tools. Keep your tools well-maintained and stored away in a designated place. That way you always know where they are and they are ready to use when you need them. You can keep your garden tools in a tool belt, or in your pockets. Another good idea is to keep them all in a bucket that you carry around with you.

Pine Needles

For some plants, pine needles makes an ideal mulch. There are many common acidic plants that prefer acidic soil. Pine needles are an excellent form of mulch for these types of plants. Cover up your beds with a few inches of needles. As they start to decompose, they’ll spread out acid onto the ground and soil.

Put coffee ground into your soil. Coffee grounds add many nitrogenous nutrients to the soil that will benefit your plants. The coffee grounds act as a powerful nitrogen source that will help your plants bloom much quicker.

Don’t let the chores for your organic garden pile up. You may not have a lot of time to exclusively devote to your gardening hobby, but you can make the most of the time you do have. For example, pull a few weeds if you’re outside and waiting for your dog to finish his business.
