If little ones live in your home, consider including everbearing strawberries in the garden plot. You will find that they enjoy participating in gardening if they are allowed to pluck the fresh berries and eat them straight from the earth.

A mixture of aspirin and water can help your ailing plants. Try dissolving around one and one half aspirins into around 2 gallons of water for your plants. Spray your plants with the water if they have a disease. Try to apply the mixture to the plants at least once in each three week period.

If you’re thinking about growing your own organic garden, then you might want to consider keeping a bit of your property undeveloped; this way wildlife can flourish. A natural area will allow beneficial birds and insects, many of which pollinate plants, to live on your property and help your garden grow stronger.

When growing indoor plants, the thermostat should be set between 65-75 degrees throughout the day. This is the optimum temperature to ensure strong growth. If you think it would not be comfortable to keep your residence that warm in the winter, consider purchasing a heat lamp to use on the plants.

Planted flowers will benefit from organic materials that are built up to as much as three inches. Mulching is the perfect way to lock in moisture, nourish soil, and to keep away weeds. This will also give a nice, professional appearance to your garden all year.

When you are doing work in your garden, be efficient. Don’t waste your time looking for missing tools. Keep your tools well-maintained and stored away in a designated place. That way you always know where they are and they are ready to use when you need them. You can keep your garden tools in a tool belt, or in your pockets. Another good idea is to keep them all in a bucket that you carry around with you.

Coffee Grounds

Mix used coffee grounds into your soil. Coffee grounds have nitrogen that plants will utilize. The coffee grounds act as a powerful nitrogen source that will help your plants bloom much quicker.

When creating a compost pile, use dried plant materials and green plants in equal parts. “Green” material refers to things like wilted flowers, weeds, leaves from your yard, and grass clippings. Dry materials, like sawdust, cut up wood pieces, cardboard, straw and shredded paper are good for your compost pile. Never put meat in your compost or even the waste from your family pets. These can harbor diseases that won’t be killed by the composting process.

The correct depth for planting seeds in containers is triple the seed’s size. Some seeds need to be in direct sunlight, though, so you need to know information about each type of seed. Two of the common examples are petunias and ageratum. If you do now know how to plant your seed, consult the information that came with the seed when you bought it or check online for helpful information.

Try using untreated stone, brick, or wood to create a raised bed. Be sure to use wood that is naturally resistant to rotting and that has not been treated. The best varieties include cedar, locust and cypress wood. Take care to avoid wood that has been chemically treated when your garden will hold vegetables, since unknown substances in the wood can make their way into your future food. If you have used treated lumber, line your beds with plastic.

With the above information in hand, you now know a little bit about what is needed to succeed as an organic gardener. Keep learning more tricks and start practicing with a few plants. If you recall this advice, you can develop and hone your own techniques to create a flourishing organic garden.
