You have the ability to produce healthy, delicious produce on your own property. Use this information to make the best organic garden that you can.

Include your kids in growing an organic garden. The benefits for your children will be a closer bond with nature and an understanding of where food comes from.

It can be easy to prepare the soil in a perennial garden. It isn’t as hard as it may seem; you basically just slice down under the turf, flip it over, and spread wood chips four to three inches. You want to then give the area about a couple of weeks, then you want your new perennials planted by digging into it.

Working in the garden doesn’t have to be grueling; learn to work more efficiently. Do not spend half an hour looking everywhere for a tool. Set up the tools you will need for your day prior to hitting the garden, then put them away neatly at the end of your gardening session. Get a tool belt if you need to, or a pair of pants with a lot of pockets.

Pine Needles

Pine is a mulch that is great. Some plants are highly acidic, and like soil that is acidic too. For these types of plants, pine needles are wonderful for mulching. Cover the plots with pine needles. As the pine needles decay, they’ll raise the soil’s acidity.

Do you want to kill weeds without using commercial chemicals? Put down old newspapers in several layers for controlling weeds. The main thing that a weed needs to thrive is sunlight. When you put newspaper over them, they suffocate from lack of sunlight. Newspapers also break down over time, becoming part of your compost. Of course, you may wish to cover the paper with mulch to make it appear more attractive.

For container planting, be sure to plant your seeds at a depth around three times the radius of the seed. There are some seeds, however, that you should not cover at all, since they need sunlight to germinate. Some of these seeds are petunias and ageratum. When in doubt about whether a seed requires direct sun exposure, you can find lots of information online or on the seed packaging itself.

By having an organic garden, you will be providing yourself with much fresher and more nutritious produce. Although it requires lots of hard work and patience, it’s ultimately worth it to own an organic garden that’s successful.
