Involve the whole family in your gardening hobby; children find growing things to be very interesting. A garden can teach your children about the joy of rewarding work and nutrition while bonding.

If you’re growing plants indoors, keep your thermostat around 65 or 75 degrees daily. Plants require a warmer climate to grow. If you aren’t wanting your house to be this warm in the winter, you can use a heat lamp on the plants.

If you’re growing indoor organic plants, you should ensure that you think about how much light is available for them. If your apartment or home does not receive a huge amount of sunlight, you might want to grow plants that adapt to medium and low light environments instead. If you still are unable to get enough light to your plants, consider purchasing grow-lights.

Flower Beds

For your flower beds, organic material should be used as mulch. Two or three inches should be enough. This will discourage weeds from growing, add nutrients, and retain the moisture in your garden. This also gives your flower beds a more aesthetic aspect.

You need to make sure you are very efficient when working in your organic garden. Don’t waste your time looking for missing tools. Prepare all of your tools prior to working in the garden, and then put them away neatly when finished. Wear pants with several pockets or use a tool belt.

Have some plastic bags on hand that you can put over your gardening shoes if they are muddy. This allows you to maintain your flow so you can rapidly get back to your gardening.

Pine is a surprisingly good source of mulch. Some plants need acidic soil to grow properly, because of their own acid content. Pine needles to line the bed of your garden are easy to find for these kinds of plants. Cover the beds with a couple inches of needles and as they decompose, they will disperse acid to the soil.

Keep slugs out of your organic garden naturally, using a beer trap. Dig a hole just deep enough for a glass jar to be placed in it while the jar still has its rim in line with the surface of the ground. Keep the jar filled with beer, up to about an inch from the top. Slugs will be attracted by the beer and fall into the jar.

If you wish to honestly proclaim your produce to be truly organic, you need to secure organic garden certification. This will not only increase sales, but it will demonstrate to your customers that your products are legitimate and that you are doing what it takes to grow the best crops.
