Organic Gardening Advice That Will Make You More Successful

Starting and maintaining an organic garden requires a lot of patience, and an affinity for growing plants. The idea here is to grow healthy, great-tasting food bereft of pesticides, herbicides and other unnatural chemical enhancers. It actually isn’t as hard as it sounds. The following hints and tips can help you grow your own organic garden easily and successfully.

Young children will love it if you plant strawberries that bear continually, and organic gardens are the perfect place to do it. Children love to snap up these sweet juicy fruits for themselves and will be much more willing to eat other foods you’ve planted as well.

You can help your plants resist disease by spraying them with aspirin water. One and half tablets of aspirin in a couple gallons of water will be a wonderful help to the plants you have. All you need to do is spray the plants with the solution in order to battle common ailments. Try to apply the mixture to the plants at least once in each three week period.

Top all your garden beds with several inches of organic mulch. Mulch will minimize weed growth and maximize nutrients and moisture. Your flower beds should also look beautiful all year long.

Have plastic bags on hand so that you may cover your muddy gardening shoes. This helps the flow keep going so that you can get into the garden quickly to finish what you’re doing.

Spacing is essential when planting an organic garden. Leave a little more space than you think your full grown plant will need to make up for overgrowth. Space is vital for your plants not only due to their literal physical size requirements but also because of how much room your garden needs for air circulation. If you put enough thought into your garden, you will enjoy more impressive results.

Do not let your gardening chores add up. While you may not be able to spend time in the garden on a daily basis, there are still many things you can do to keep things from snowballing out of control. While you are with your pet outside, pull some weeds while the pet does its business.

Laundry Basket

Use a laundry basket to help you collect produce from your garden. The laundry basket will function as a makeshift strainer for the fruits and vegetables. Rinse your produce while it lays in the basket; any excess water strains off through the laundry basket holes.

It is possible to control weeds with natural methods. You can easily control weeds by using layered sheets of newspaper. Without exposure to the sun, weeds cannot thrive. When you pile up layers of newspapers right on top of the weeds, they will suffocate and die. Newspapers tend to break down into compost nicely. If you want it to look better, just add a layer or two of much over top of the newspapers.

Seeds Require

When planting seeds you should cover them with fine soil. Determine its depth by looking at the seed’s size and multiplying it by three. There are exceptions, however. Some types of seeds require more direct sunlight than others, and as such they should not be fully covered. Example of these kinds of seeds include the petunia and the ageratum. If you don’t know whether your seeds require sun exposure, check the seed package or search online for the information.

Organic gardening combines hard work, patience and nature. It makes use of empty land to produce something tasty and healthy. Being a competent organic gardener can be achieved by simply putting in some effort, and learning a few helpful tips.
