Learn How To Garden In Small Gardens

Organic Gardening Can Be Easy If You Use These Tips

When you take the time to apply the correct organic gardening strategies and products, it can really produce some great results. Being motivated to take care of your garden and wanting to put some time and efforts in it is a great thing. That is a quality to be admired. As any other skill, your organic gardening skills will only grow with time and experience. The following advice will help you out.

If you plan to raise organic plants inside, you need to think about how much light they will get. The amount of light available can determine which type of organic plants you should grow. For example, if your living area does not provide much natural sunlight, you could grow those plants that only need low to medium amounts of natural light to thrive. If you have a different type of plant, extra lighting can always help.

To be most efficient in your gardening, always keep your tools close at hand. You should use a large pail and wear sturdy pants that have several pockets. Keep your gloves, pruning shears, a hand spade and your other tools handy to quickly and easily do your garden maintenance.

When your seeds sprout, they will not be in need of the warmth they needed to germinate. Move your plants away from the heat as they grow. You should also remove plastic films that you had on your containers to keep the humidity and warmth out. Unless you closely monitor your seedlings, you may not move them in time.

You can cover your muddied gardening footware easily by keeping plastic bags around. Having these available lets you keep your flow in movement, and helps you return to your gardening fast so you can finish up your day.

Believe it or not, pine makes great mulch. Some garden plants are high in acidity, and do better with acidic soil. If your garden contains plants like this, there are few things simpler than spreading some pine needles across your beds. Cover your beds with the needles, as they will decompose and disperse their acid throughout the soil.

Laundry Basket

Use a laundry basket to help you collect produce from your garden. You can also use a laundry basket as a strainer. After you have rinsed your produce in the laundry basket, the water will just drain right out the sides.

Lightly ruffle your seeds by hand or with cardboard, twice daily in your organic garden. This will make your plants grow faster and they will get bigger than they would have without this practice.

You can get rid of slugs with a simple beer trap. Bury a canning jar so that the open mouth and the soil top are level. Fill that with beer just under an inch from the top of your jar. Slugs are attracted to beer. They will crawl into the jar and be trapped.

Treated Wood

In order to construct your raised beds, make use of untreated brick, stone, wood and other materials. If you choose to use wood to construct your bed, choose a species that is naturally resistant to rot and avoid treated wood entirely. Cypress, locust and cedar are all great examples of what woods to use when building a raised bed. If you use treated wood in your vegetable garden, the chemicals in the wood can make their way into the soil, and in turn, to your crops. You may have previously used treated lumber; if so, you should use a plastic liner to cover it.

Now you know more about organic gardening. Great! These tips should provide you with a good basis for your gardening. In fact, it is possible that you came across a trick that you never would have thought of otherwise.
