Learn How To Garden In Small Gardens

Organic Gardening Guidelines That You Must Know

Meticulous attention to your garden is one of the primary tenets of the green gardening movement. This can be achieved by using smart, eco-savvy gardening techniques. You have the ability to produce healthy, delicious produce on your own property. Using these tips will make you a top-class organic gardener in no time.

Allow your children to assist with the work to be done in your organic garden. Helping a garden grow is an excellent learning experience for kids, and it allows your family to spend time together while creating healthy, nutritious foods.

Be sure you plant strawberries in your garden for your children, you want to make sure you especially plant everbearing strawberries as well. Kids delight in the idea of growing things and seeing how things change over time. Explain every step to your child and he or she will hang on to your every word.

Make sure you have your gardening tools near you, so you can maximize your gardening efficiency. You can make use of a bucket, or wear pants that have plenty of pockets. Make sure your trowel, pruning shears, gloves and other important tools are always handy. This will allow you to make easy work of your gardening up-keep!

When a seed actually sprouts, it doesn’t need to be in as warm an environment. After growth begins, you can remove plants from any excessive heat sources. You must also take away plastic films from your containers in order to keep the warmth and humidity out. You should know when the right time is if you are keeping an eye on the seeds.

Learn to work efficiently. Don’t waste time searching for lost tools. Before you start work in the garden, make sure you have the necessary tools, and always remember to put them away when you are finished. Even something like a carpenter’s tool belt or some cargo jeans work well to keep tools organized.

Laundry Basket

Use an old laundry basket to bring your fresh produce in from the garden. This laundry basket can be used as a type of strainer for all your produce. Rinse your produce while it lays in the basket; any excess water strains off through the laundry basket holes.

In your compost, use green and dried plants in equal parts. Green plant mulches include everything from fresh grass clippings, to unwanted vegetables, to recently pulled weeds. Dried plant materials are things like shredded newspaper, cardboard, sawdust, straw, and any cut up wood materials. Charcoal, meat, ashes or other diseased plants should not be included in a compost pile.

Direct Sunlight

If you are planting seeds in containers, a good rule of thumb is that the seed’s depth should be around three times its overall size. There are exceptions to this rule though, as some seeds need direct sunlight to grow. This is true of popular flowers like petunias and zinnias. With so many different types of seeds, it is important that you check seed packaging or utilize other resources, such as the Internet, to discover which seeds require exposure to direct sunlight.

Organic gardening is a great way to improve your diet naturally. It is a good source of fresh vegetables and fruits and can improve your health markedly. It may take a ton of work, but it is worth it.
