Learn How To Garden In Small Gardens

Organic Gardening Tips For Every Season Of The Year

Organic gardening can be a very enjoyable and relaxing activity in which anyone can participate. Starting to garden can be intimidating at first. So, how does a novice learn more about gardening? The best way to start is to continue reading this article!

One way to encourage an organic garden to be sustainable and healthy is to put aside a section to stay undeveloped, thus encouraging wildlife to approach it. You will see many of the birds and insects that are present will assist in pollination and plant production, helping to create a much better garden.

Have your gardening tools near you to minimize the time spent searching for them. You have several options including using a bucket to hold your tools or wearing pants with lots of sturdy pockets. A gardener’s tool belt will allow you to keep your gardening gloves and other tools close by while you are working in your garden.

Use several inches of organic materials for mulch in your flower beds. This will help to inhibit weed growth, helps to lock in moisture, and adds needed nutrients to your organic garden. This will also make your flowers appear beautiful and finished all year long.

Have plastic bags on hand so that you may cover your muddy gardening shoes. This allows you to maintain your flow so you can rapidly get back to your gardening.

When planting your organic garden, spacing is an important thing to keep in mind. Plants take up quite a bit of space as they grow, and it’s easy to underestimate just how much. Plants don’t just need enough space for their physical size; they also need enough space for the air in your garden to circulate properly. Plan your garden accordingly, and make sure the right distance is between the seeds.

Do not let your gardening chores add up. While you may not be able to spend a lot of time every day in your garden, even little items done daily will stop the mountain of work from growing. For example, snatch out a weed or two whenever you pass by the garden, such as when you take your dog out for a potty break.

Use a laundry basket to help you collect produce from your garden. This will be like a strainer for all your produce. Just rinse the produce right in the basket; the water will drain through the holes.

One unusual tip in organic gardening, is to “pet” your seedlings often. Use your hands or a piece of cardboard and lightly ruffle the seedling about one or two times a day. This sounds like total nonsense, but there is research suggesting that it does promote plant growth relative to unpetted plants.

Keep slugs out of your organic garden naturally, using a beer trap. Use a glass jar buried in the soil so the rim of the jar is at ground level. Pour beer into the jar until it is an inch from the top. Slugs will be attracted by the beer and fall into the jar.

Depending on the season and weather, adjust your watering habits. The amount of water you will need will vary according to your climate and even such factors as the part of day and soil type. For instance, in warm and balmy locations, it is important not to water leaves, as doing so tends to foster fungus growth. Instead focus on watering the root system.

Organic fruits and vegetables grow without being exposed to pesticides and other chemicals. Though this is certainly a great thing for the health of your loved ones, it is important to watch for additional pests and insects that may be present.

Try cultivating organic gardening. Plant individual cloves of garlic in the early spring or fall in moist, well-drained soil. Place them about one to two inches deep in the soil, pointed end up, and four inches apart. Cut the green garlic shoots and use them as a substitute for chives or scallions. You know your bulbs are ready when they turn brown on their tops. Allow the skin to harden by letting your bulbs sit out in the sun. The garlic should be stored out of direct sunlight in a cool, dry place.
