Get your children interested in helping with your organic garden. Gardening helps your children learn about biological processes and serves as a social activity that helps the family grow closer while eating healthier.

If you want a sustainable garden, leave a part of it undisturbed for wildlife to enjoy. The kind of birds and insects needed for pollination will be naturally present on your property and help with your organic garden.

It’s simple to quickly prepare your soil for the planting of a perennial garden. Use a spade to dig into the turf, turn the turf over, then spread the area with approximately three inches of wood chips. After a few weeks, you can then dig into the turf and plant the perennials of your choosing.

Tools Close

To be most efficient in your gardening, always keep your tools close at hand. Carry your tools in a bucket, or keep them in the pockets of a pair of rugged pants. A gardener’s tool belt will allow you to keep your gardening gloves and other tools close by while you are working in your garden.

Your seeds, once they begin sprouting, don’t need the same amount of warmth as they did before. Sprouting plants can be removed from the heat source. It is wise to take plastic covers off of the containers in order to eliminate humidity and excess heat. Watch your seeds closely to find the right time to do this.

Organize your gardening so that you can work efficiently. Don’t spend 30 minutes searching for a tool. Organize the tools you will need before you head to the garden, and put every item away when you finish your work. If you need to use a tool belt, try using some pants with pockets in them.

Have plastic bags on hand to put over dirty gardening shoes. This helps you stay in the zone so that you can continue gardening when you have completed your tasks in the house.

Pine Needles

Believe it or not, pine makes great mulch. There are many common acidic plants that prefer acidic soil. If you have acid loving plants, use pine needles as a mulch. If you spread a few inches of pine needles around your garden beds, when they break down, the acid they contain will leach into the soil.

Use coffee grounds on your soil. Coffee grounds are filled with nitrogen, that is a nutrient required by plants. Nitrogen is generally a way to make your plants grow bigger, better and faster.

Try not to let the chores associated to your organic garden build up. If you can’t get out in your garden every day, there are still a number of things you can do to keep things from falling into disarray during your absence. Even if you’re just taking the dog for a walk, bend down and pick a few weeds.

As a good general practice, you should make sure to plant your seeds three seed-widths deep into their containers. Some seeds need sunlight and should not be buried. Two common examples of this type of seed are ageratum and petunias. If you are not sure whether your seeds need to be exposed to sunlight, resources are usually provided with the seeds or can be found online.
