There are many people who’d like to have their own organic garden, but not many take the time to actually create one. Get your children interested in helping with your organic garden. You can provide a good learning experience that your children can appreciate the more they learn on how to grow healthy produce.

Indoor plants have been bred over time to thrive in temperatures that are characteristic of a home. Most indoor plants like to be in about 70 degree temperatures, plus or minus 5 degrees. The temperature needs to be this warm so they are able to grow. You can also buy a heat lamp to maintain ideal conditions for your inside plants during the winter.

You should add a two to three inch layer of organic mulch to your flower bed. This will help to inhibit weed growth, helps to lock in moisture, and adds needed nutrients to your organic garden. It will also increase the visual appeal of the flower beds.

To avoid tracking the mud and dirt that will get on your gardening shoes, use plastic bags. Having these available lets you keep your flow in movement, and helps you return to your gardening fast so you can finish up your day.

Pine is a surprisingly good source of mulch. Some garden plants are high in acidity, and do better with acidic soil. If this is the case, use pine needles to mulch your beds. Spread the needles over the beds in a layer that is approximately 2-inches deep. Over time, the needles will begin to decay, supplying the soil with acid as they do.

Coffee Grounds

Mix used coffee grounds into your soil. Coffee grounds are filled with nitrogen, that is a nutrient required by plants. Usually, nitrogen is limited with a plant, but using coffee grounds, diluted urea, or compost can make your plants grow faster and taller.

Don’t let your organic gardening tasks stack up for very long. Every time you go outside, you should take care of a few things so that you do not have too much work to do when you have the time to go back to your garden. You can pull a few weeds when you take your dog outside.

Use a laundry basket to help you collect produce from your garden. You can also use a laundry basket as a strainer. You can rinse your produce off while it is in the basket, and the excess water will strain through the holes of your laundry basket.

Direct Sunlight

As a good general practice, you should make sure to plant your seeds three seed-widths deep into their containers. There are exceptions, however. Some types of seeds require more direct sunlight than others, and as such they should not be fully covered. Petunias and ageratum are two examples of seeds that require sunlight. With so many different types of seeds, it is important that you check seed packaging or utilize other resources, such as the Internet, to discover which seeds require exposure to direct sunlight.

When you run your personal organic garden, try ruffling seedlings using your hands or cardboard one or two times daily. However odd this may sound, research shows that this touching encourages seedlings to grow better than they would without touching.
