Learn How To Garden In Small Gardens

Tips For Great Organic Gardening

Every day, more and more people are learning the benefits of organic gardens. Using the information in this article will help you to quickly get up to speed on how to grow your own organic garden. Use these tricks and tips to get the best results.

Allow your children to assist with the work to be done in your organic garden. A garden can be a great learning experience for your children, and it gives you a chance to bond while producing healthy food.

If you’re thinking about growing your own organic garden, then you might want to consider keeping a bit of your property undeveloped; this way wildlife can flourish. The presence of native flowers, trees and grasses will attract birds and insects. You will be rewarded by an appealing and flourishing landscape.

Working in the garden doesn’t have to be grueling; learn to work more efficiently. Have your tools laid out in an orderly way so you do not have to search for them. Before you start work in the garden, make sure you have the necessary tools, and always remember to put them away when you are finished. You can use a tool belt, or you may want to wear pants with extra pockets.

Pine Needles

Believe it or not, pine makes great mulch. Some garden plants are high in acidity, and do better with acidic soil. If your garden contains plants like this, there are few things simpler than spreading some pine needles across your beds. Cover the plots with pine needles. As the pine needles decay, they’ll raise the soil’s acidity.

Put coffee ground into your soil. Coffee grounds will add nitrogen to your soil which will make them helpful for some of your plants. Coffee grounds as a source of nitrogen for plants are usually limited to acid-loving plants because coffee is acidic. Plants need nitrogen in order to thrive, so give it a natural source with coffee grounds, then watch everything come to life much more quickly.

Use an aged laundry basket when you want to collect your produce. An old basket will act like a strainer does. If you leave your produce in the basket while rinsing it, the basket will be able to serve as a strainer, with the extra water dripping out the holes in the bottom of the basket.

Looking for a natural way to kill weeds in your garden? A layer of newspaper, several pages thick, placed over the ground will do the trick. Weeds need sun for growth, just like any other plant. When you place layers of newspapers on top of them, the weeds will suffocate from the lack of light. Newsprint also breaks down well, incorporating itself into the compost. Try adding some mulch on top of it to make appear more attractive.

It is a great idea to help your garden by ruffling seedlings, either with cardboard or with your own hands, a couple of times each day. However odd this may sound, research shows that this touching encourages seedlings to grow better than they would without touching.

Keep slugs out of your organic garden naturally, using a beer trap. Take a glass jar and bury it in your garden, making sure that the lip of the jar is even with the soil. Pour enough beer into the jar to fill it below an inch from the top. Slugs are attracted by the beer and won’t be able to exit the jar once they enter.

You have to be patient to create a perfect organic garden. The above tips will help you make a wonderful garden. Regardless of which plants you want to grow, you will be successful if you learn more about gardening and apply what you learn.
