Learn How To Garden In Small Gardens

Tired Of Chemicals? Grow An Organic Garden With These Tips

It’s now time to develop a fresh and nutritious organic garden. There is no better time to start than the present! Listed below are some tips that will help you get started with your organic gardening aspirations.

Use this simple tip to get your perennial garden ready in a flash. Use your spade to slice chunks of turf up, then flip each piece over, and spread wood chips on top to a depth of four inches. Let the area sit for a couple weeks, then begin digging into it and planting your new perennials.

Work properly in your garden. You do not have the time to spend an hour looking for each tool you need. Get all of your tools together before you go into your garden, then place them in a safe spot when you are finished with them. Wear pants with several pockets or use a tool belt.

Do not overlook the benefits of pine mulch for your garden. There are some plants that thrive in acidic soil. Use pine needles to increase the acid level in your soil if you have plants that require higher acid. Using several inches of needles to cover your beds provides acid for the soil as they begin to decompose.

Space is important to remember when planting an organic garden. Leave a little more space than you think your full grown plant will need to make up for overgrowth. Plants don’t just need enough space for their physical size; they also need enough space for the air in your garden to circulate properly. Think ahead and give each plant room for expansion, by properly spacing the seeds.

You need to avoid chores in your organic garden stacking up. You may not have a lot of time to exclusively devote to your gardening hobby, but you can make the most of the time you do have. Even if you’re just taking the dog for a walk, bend down and pick a few weeds.

Don’t use pesticides – kill your weeds naturally! Put down old newspapers in several layers for controlling weeds. Weeds can only grow when there is adequate sunlight. If the weeds have already sprouted, you can place the newspapers over them and they will die due to lack of sunlight. You can use newspapers because of how nicely they break down, they can be added into compost. Try adding some mulch on top of it to make appear more attractive.

Create a raised bed for your garden out of stone, bricks or untreated wood. When selecting wood, make certain you pick untreated products that have a natural resistance to rot. The most popular options for this type of project are cypress, locust and cedar woods. Never use compost from treated woods in a veggie garden; the chemicals can contaminate your food. If you have used treated lumber, line your beds with plastic.

For claiming your crops are credible and truly organic, get organic garden certified. This should boost your sales while proving to your customers that they are getting healthy products.
