Water infused with aspirin is great for combating plant disease. Try dissolving around one and one half aspirins into around 2 gallons of water for your plants. Spray the plants with the aspirin water to assist plants in battling disease. Try to apply the mixture to the plants at least once in each three week period.

Pine is a wonderful mulch so do not discard the idea. There are some plants that thrive in acidic soil. For these types of plants, pine needles are wonderful for mulching. Spread the needles over the beds in a layer that is approximately 2-inches deep. Over time, the needles will begin to decay, supplying the soil with acid as they do.

Coffee Grounds

Using coffee grounds as part of your soil mixture in your garden is often advised for healthy plants. The grounds contain essential nitrogen, which will benefit your plants in many ways. Many times, nitrogen is a limiting nutrient in soils. Adding coffee grounds or compost can add nitrogen to your soils will help your plants grow tall and healthy.

Is there a natural way to kill weeds? Try using several newspaper layers to control weeds. Weeds need sunlight to grow. They will suffocate and die if you cover them with newpapers. Old newspapers are a valuable addition to your compost heap. Add a layer of mulch on top to make it look more attractive!

If slugs are an issue in your garden, a beer trap can make them go away. Get a clean, empty glass jar to use as a trap. Bury it with its mouth facing upwards. Keep putting dirt over the jar until the mouth is at the surface of your garden. Fill the jar with beer about an inch lower than the top. Slugs are attracted to the beer and become trapped in the container.

Build raised beds with untreated stone, brick or wood. Any wood you use needs to be untreated and resistant to rot. Several species of trees yield suitable wood. Locust, cypress, and cedar are among the more commonly used rot resitent woods. Consider the chemicals that will leach out of the wood before choosing anything that has been treated. Remember the affect that such chemicals will have on your plants and soil. If you’re using treated lumber, line it with a barrier, or some plastic.
