There are so many natural alternatives available to you if you want to turn your garden organic. You just need to learn them and use them.

Involve your children in gardening. A garden can provide a wonderful learning experience for children, and will give you an opportunity to bond with them while you produce healthy food.

Keep your plants in a warm, moist environment, if possible. They need this type of warm temperature in order to grow. If your thermostat is normally kept lower in winter, you can use a heat lamp to keep your plants warm enough.

Don’t let all the little chores in your organic garden build up. Not everyone has time to tend their gardens every day, but by doing little things whenever you have a chance, you can avoid having things pile up. If you put the dog outside, weed a few spots in the garden while your dog goes to the bathroom.

Use alcohol to help control the slugs in your garden by fashioning a beer trap. Place a container in the ground so that the lip is even with the soil surface. After you have placed the jar in the soil, fill with beer to approximately one inch of the top. Beer is especially attractive to slugs; they will lured to it and trapped.

Treated Wood

Try using untreated stone, brick, or wood to create a raised bed. If you choose to use wood, see to it that it’s untreated and that it can resist rotting. Examples of good woods include cedar, cypress, and locust. In a vegetable garden, never use treated wood, as the chemicals can leach out into the soil and food crops. If you have some space treated wood, you can still use it, however, be sure to line it with some type of barrier like plastic sheeting.

The watering needs of your garden will vary considerably, depending on your climate zone and the time of year. The watering depth and temperature depends mainly on the time you water them and the soil they are planted in. For example, if your climate is humid and warm, you should not water the leaves because it will encourage leaf fungus. Instead, water the root system well.

One of the biggest benefits from eating food that is organically grown is the absence of pesticides. This is healthier than other alternatives, but you need to still check for diseases and bugs regularly.

To get a good start, look below the surface! Oftentimes, tomato seedlings that show verdant green starts have poor roots. These starts will stick to the seedlings for quite some time, which prevents the seedlings from growing until the starts are gone.
